York, June 2006. To celebrate the 1700th anniversary of the proclamation in York of Constantine the Great as Roman Emperor, the Yorkshire Museum is hosting until 29 October 2006 a major international exhibition showcasing exhibits from across Britain and Europe including many treasures from the time of the Emperor.
Included in the exhibition are silverware, sculpture, mosaics, jewellery and textiles which offer a rich array of the wealth and magificence of the age.
Ruling for more that 30 years Emperor Constantine the Great was responsible for religious tolerance and promoting Christianity and is closely associated with the ancient history of the Constantinian Order.
