Canon Tuckwell was appointed a Ecclesiastical Knight of Grace of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of St George by decree of HRH Prince Carlo of Bourbon Two Sicilies, Duke of Castro and Grand Master and invested at a ceremony held at Westminster Cathedral in November 2011.
Born in Surrey, Canon Christopher entered the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 1964 and later served for six years in Germany, Oman and Kenya. Afterwards Canon Christopher studied at the Chichester Theological College which led to a curacy in east London. Canon Tuckwell travelled out to the West Indies in 1976 and during his stay in the Caribbean, most notably St Vincent and the Grenadines, he decided to convert from Anglicanism to Catholicism. Returning to London, Canon Christopher was ordained to the Catholic priesthood by Cardinal Basil Hume in 1995. He was appointed as Sub Administrator of Westminster Cathedral and in 2008 was promoted to Administrator – a post he held until his retirement on health grounds two weeks ago. Canon Christopher was a longstanding spiritual guide to our Delegation. He was a regular at many delegation events including our last event held in January 2020 at the Slovak Embassy in London which celebrated the faith communities in Britain.Canon Christopher was a strong supporter of the Order’s engagement in the Caribbean having served in the region. He attended various masses and events of the Delegation of the Caribbean in Grenada, St Lucia, Antigua & Barbuda and those events held in Britain celebrating the West Indies.Christopher will be greatly missed and on behalf of the delegation I wish to extend on behalf of all the knights, dames and medallists our sincere condolences to his family and friends.Details of his memorial service will follow in due course and his funeral mass will be undertaken within the constraints of the Covid19 restrictions.
