Turin, November 2017. The Delegation of Great Britain and Ireland notes with much sadness the passing of His Eminence Andrea Cardinal Cordero Lanza di Montezemolo, aged 91.
His Eminence was a leading Vatican diplomat and Archpriest Emeritus of the Basilica of St Paul Outside the Walls in Rome from 2005 to 2009.
Cardinal Cordero was appointed Secretary of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace in the Roman Curia in 1976. He served as Apostolic Pro-Nuncio to Papua New Guinea and Cyprus and as Apostolic Delegate to the Solomon Islands, Jerusalem and Palestine. His Eminence was Apostolic Nuncio to Nicaragua, Honduras, Uruguay and the first Nuncio to Israel. He was made Cardinal in 2006 by Pope Benedict XVI.
His Eminence was a longstanding member and supporter of the Constantinian Order. He held the rank of Bailiff Grand Cross of Justice of the Constantinian Order since 2000.
