Roseau, October 2015. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Roseau has issued its second formal report to the Grand Magistry of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of St George on the progress of the charitable engagement in the Commonwealth of Dominica. The progress is most impressive, despite the unfortunate and devastating tropical storm Erica in August 2015 which the country is still recovering from.
The renovation of Our Lady of Fair Haven Cathedral in Roseau is ongoing and most recently in September 2015, the installation of the steel roof structure was completed.
The renovation of the St Peter’s Presbytery in Colihaut, has continued despite the flooding of the village. To date, new foundations have been built with new supporting columns and improvements have been made to the floors, walls and ceilings. The project is expected to be completed by March 2016.
The construction of the Diocesan Youth Centre is also underway. The demolition works are almost finished and the architectural and engineering drawings are in progress. The actual construction works are scheduled to be completed within 12 months.
The project for renovating Our Lady of Mount Carmel Retirement Home was temporarily suspended due to the devastation caused by tropical storm Erika and is projected to be completed by March 2016.
The Delegate Anthony Bailey expressed his delight at the progress of the projects, stating that: “I am delighted that the Constantinian Order, through the generosity of its members and friends, is funding these worthy projects in Dominica and the wider Caribbean region. The tropical storm Erica was a tragic disaster which resulted in a heavy loss of life and damages throughout the country. Seeing the resilience of the people first hand while the Order continues to support the schools, training facilities, libraries and places of worship only proves that a brighter future for Dominica is just ahead.”
The multi-million dollar charitable projects are being supported through the efforts of the Delegation of Great Britain and Ireland and in cooperation with the Delegation for the Caribbean and Diocese of Roseau. These were formally announced during the Official Visit of the Grand Master of the Constantinian Order, HRH The Duke of Castro and His Eminence Renato Raffaele Cardinal Martino, Grand Prior in November 2014.
