Llandudno, November 2011. With financial backing from the British and Irish Delegation of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of St George, St Dunstan’s has now been able to open the doors to the new St Dunstan’s Training and Rehabilitation Centre in Llandudno, Wales, and to begin providing first class help and support to blind and visually impaired veterans.
For almost a century St Dunstan’s has provided lifelong support for blind and visually impaired ex-Service men and women. With its unique expertise, experience and comprehensive range of services, St Dunstan’s enables ex-Service men and women to lead independent fulfilling lives.
The new Centre in Llandudno in North Wales offers world class rehabilitation, recovery, training and respite facilities. The main building contains 30 bedrooms, as well as other respite, rehabilitation and training facilities. The extension also provides 10 high dependency nursing rooms. With the current centres stretched to the limits the new Centre in Llandudno is an essential upgrade to ensure the support of all ex-Servicemen and women with damaged sight, regardless of their other injuries. This is especially important for those returning from today’s conflicts given the extensive injuries associated with counter-insurgency operations.
Mark Lovatt, Manager of St Dunstan’s Llandudno Centre said: “My staff and I are delighted to be able to welcome beneficiaries in to this magnificent facility. We are really looking forward to using our skills and experience to help blind and visually impaired veterans regain their independence, meet new challenges and achieve a better quality of life. We would not be able to provide vital services to help our blind Veterans battle blindness and provide rehabilitation and training without the support of The Sacred Military Constantinian Order of St George”.
St Dunstan’s Campaign Chairman, HRH Crown Prince Pavlos of Greece said “I should like to thank you for the support which the Constantinian Order are giving this exciting project and life changing charity. I value especially your concern and involvement. Thank you for your generous support in helping St Dunstan’s so far”.
British and Irish Delegate of the Constantinian Order Anthony Bailey said “In 2010 St Dunstan’s was adopted by the knights and dames of the Constantinian Order and Royal Order of Francis I in Great Britain and Ireland as a charity for fundraising purposes. I am delighted that through the generosity of our members, the Order has been able to make a meaningful contribution to St Dunstan’s at this important time as well as continue the charitable mission of our Roman Catholic Order of Knighthood”.
