London, November 2016. Formal legal complaint has been made by the Delegate of Great Britain and Ireland of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of St George, Anthony Bailey, OBE, through Carter-Ruck solicitors against some Caribbean newspapers including Daily Observer, News784 and Barbados Today in relation to articles published on 7 November 2016 in the print or online editions of the newspapers under the following heading: “Governor general revokes two knighthoods”.
These articles wrongly claimed that there were “numerous allegations” in the British media that members of a delegation led by Anthony Bailey from the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of St George received knighthoods “in exchange for money”. In fact, these claims were false and those who granted the awards to Anthony Bailey and other members of the delegation received no payment or other remuneration for doing so. There were no such allegations in the British press either.
These articles have now been withdrawn and a series of retractions and apologies have been published.
