London – November 2003. The Chief Rabbi, Dr Jonathan Sacks said: “The charitable work of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George and the Royal Order of Francis I is much to be admired. What is less well known, but no less admirable is their work in promoting understanding between the diverse religious groups on a national and global basis.
I am deeply touched that the award to Professor Khalili celebrating his major contribution to inter-faith dialogue makes him the first Jew to be made a Knight Commander of the Royal Order of Francis I. This is a great honour for him and the Jewish Community.
I send my blessings to the Order and hope that its dedication to charitable causes will inspire other”.
