London – November 2003. His Grace The Right Honourable and Right Reverend Dr Rowan Williams, Lord Archbishop of Canterbury, said in encouraging our knights and dames to continue their important charitable and inter-faith work: “I am delighted to send my greetings to the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George and the Royal Order of Francis I on the celebrations of the 200th anniversary of the British and Irish Delegation.
The tradition of humanitarian and hospitaller service, and in more recent times the fostering of dialogue between faiths, are important responses to the continuing needs in the world. I am glad to see that the chivalric tradition continues to inspire people in many countries to work for the relief of the needy, the protection of the weak, and the good of all.
I trust that the Delegation’s celebrations will be a great occasion, and will encourage its members to continue this important charitable work”.
