Vienna, 6 December 2017. The Delegation of Great Britain and Ireland notes with much sadness the passing of Prince Peter von Hohenberg, aged 81.
His Serene Highness was invested as a Knight Grand Cross of Justice of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of St George in 2011 within the British and Irish Delegation, in recognition to his longstanding service to the Catholic Church and its global mission. Prince Peter was also a Knight Commander of the Pontifical Order of St Gregory the Great and a Knight Grand Cross of Honour and Devotion in Obedience of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta among other awards.
Prince Peter was a son of Duke Maximilian von Hohenberg – the eldest son of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, Heir Presumptive to the Austro-Hungarian Throne and Duchess Sophie von Hohenberg, who were both assassinated in Sarajevo in 1914. Prince Peter’s great-grandmother was Princess Maria Annunziata of Bourbon Two Sicilies, daughter of King Ferdinand II and Queen Maria Theresa of the Two Sicilies.
Due to the familial ties between the Bourbon Two Sicilies and Hohenberg Families numerous members of the family have been members of the Constantinian Order including Prince Peter’s elder brother Duke Georg von Hohenberg, former Austrian Ambassador to the Holy See and his wife Duchess Eleonore and Princess Marie-Therese von Hohenberg Mrs Anthony Bailey.
Rest in peace. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam. Requiescat in pace. Ruhe in Frieden.
