New York, March 2015. The Chancery regrets to announce the death on 5 March 2015 of Cardinal Edward Michael Egan of New York, Archbishop Emeritus of New York and Chaplain of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of St George.
Cardinal Egan was appointed Archbishop of New York in 2000, a post he held for nine years. In 2001, he was elevated to the Sacred College of Cardinals. His Eminence was invested into the Constantinian Order in 2001, and held the rank of Bailiff Knight Grand Cross of Justice for Cardinals. He will be greatly missed.
